3 Care Tips for Timber Furniture

Posted on

Timber furniture can be a great addition to any room. It is a perfect complement for most styles and will not only look great, but also be fully functional. When you are deciding on what types of timber furniture to add to your home, it is important to consider how you will care for and maintain timber furniture over time. The only way that this type of furniture will remain in great condition, is if it is cleaned and cared for properly. This means that you need to be aware of care tips involving timber furniture.

Only Use a Little Bit of Water

Water might be an essential ingredient when cleaning, but it is important to remember that smaller amounts of water are preferred when you are cleaning timber furniture. Too much water can result in overly saturating the wood. This can lead to visible water damage. This means that you should only lightly dampen a rag and wring it out thoroughly before you use it when cleaning timber furniture. Not only should the rag just be slightly damp, but it should also be extremely soft. Soft rags are essential because they will not scratch the timber surface of the furniture.

Safely Remove the Tags

There are typically tags attached to new timber furniture that you purchase in store. Removing these tags can sometimes be tricky if you are looking to avoid leaving any marks behind. The sticky residue that is left from the price tag can be removed with ease using white vinegar. You should take a soft rag and dampen it slightly before pouring a small amount of white vinegar on the rag. Rubbing the vinegar over the sticky residue will ensure that it is completely removed from the surface of the timber furniture. The white vinegar will not cause any damage to the timber at all as long as you do not apply a lot of pressure when wiping.

Wax the Material

It can be a great idea to wax your timber furniture a few times each year to give it a great shine and offer increased protection. Make sure that you apply only wax that is not silicone based. It is always a good idea to make sure that you wax your temperature before the temperatures outside turn cold. When the temperatures begin to change, wax can provide the most protection. In addition to waxing, it is also possible to apply an oil to the timber once a year to keep it looking like new.
